On Tuesday we will learn about point-slope form. On Wednesday we will learn about slope-intercept form. On Thursday we will continue studying slope-intercept form. On Friday we will have a quiz on slope. The quiz will consist of four questions about calculating slope from a graph, two questions about point-slope form, and four questions about slope-intercept form. It is important to note that we have several major tests coming up, with the post-test coming up next week and the final the week after that. Students will need to be successful on these tests in order to maximize their grades for the semester. They will receive study guides for them by the end of the week. 1/2/12 - This week there is no school on Monday. On Tuesday, we will be beginning to study graphing. On Wednesday, we will elaborate on graphing with some activities. There is a good graphing practice at the bottom of this page with the Graph Mole game, and there is also some good graphing practice in Catch-up Math Games. I especially recommend the Catch a Fly game. On Thursday, we will cover how to solve all-letter equations. On Friday, we will have a quiz. The quiz will cover graphing points and all-letter equations. We have only a couple weeks to go before finals, so now is the make or break time. It is important that students put in a full effort from this point forward to maximize their chances of passing. 12/12/11 - This week we will be studying inequalities. On Monday, we will introduce the concept of an inequality. On Tuesday, we will discuss how to solve inequalities. On Wednesday, we will be graphing inequalities. On Thursday, we will be studying for the benchmark. On Friday, we will be taking the benchmark test. Students will have homework on Tuesday and will receive a study guide for their benchmark on Wednesday. They should turn the study guide in when they take the benchmark so that they will be eligible for test corrections. 12/5/11 - This week we will be beginning to study equations. On Monday, we will be talking about how to divide monomials. On Tuesday, we will discuss equations that involve adding and subtracting. On Wednesday, we will discuss equations that involve multiplying and dividing. On Thursday, we will graph equations on number lines. On Friday, we will begin to discuss inequalities. Students will receive their progress reports on Friday. There will be homework on Tuesday, and a quiz on Friday this week. 11/21/11 - This week we will be reviewing FOIL, greatest common factor, and radicals. We will be doing different review activities both Monday and Tuesday. 11/14/11 - This week we will be continuing our factoring unit. On Monday, students will continue their work on the FOIL method that they began on Friday. On Tuesday, we will wrap up the FOIL method. On Wednesday, we will have a quiz on the FOIL method and combining like terms. Additionally, on Wednesday we will begin working on factor trees. On Thursday we will have a half day for parent conferences, and we will use that day as a review day. On Friday, we will begin working on square roots and radicals. 10/31/11 - This week we will be finishing up our properties unit. This is the final week of the nine weeks, so it is very important that students get any missing work turned in. On Monday, we will be working on learning the transitive property. On Tuesday we will be working on additive and multiplicative identities. On Wednesday we will be working on additive and multiplicative inverses. On Thursday we will be working on substitution. On Friday we will have our Midterm exam. Please make sure that students study for this exam, as it is a significant portion of their grade for the year. Students will have a study guide available for it that they should use. 10/17/11 - This week we will finish up our word problems unit. On Monday we will be studying mean, median, and mode. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we will be reviewing the word problems unit. On Friday the students will have a unit test on the word problems unit. They will have a study guide for their unit test. If they turn in their completed study guide when they take the test on Friday, they will be eligible to do test corrections after the test. If not, they will not be able to. 10/10/11 - This week we are continuing to study word problems, and we will begin to study exponents and order of operations. I continue to be concerned with low grades and lack of understanding in class, and I urge parents to have their children stay for tutoring so that they can get caught up. On Monday, we will be working on problem solving questions. Please also remember that Monday is a half day. On Tuesday we will be going outdoors to work on conversion factors and adding negatives. On Wednesday we will be dissecting word problems. On Thursday we will be studying rules of exponents, and on Friday we will be studying order of operations. There will be homework on Thursday which will be about exponents. There will also be a quiz on Thursday on word problems and translations. 10/3/11 - This week we will begin our unit on Word Problems. Parents may notice that many of the grades for last week's test were quite low, and I encourage students to stay for tutoring to help improve their understanding of the material. On Monday of this week we will be studying terms used in word problems. On Tuesday we will be continuing to study terms using real world examples. On Wednesday we will be working on translating phrases into math. On Thursday we will be working on a unique problem solving question. On Friday we will be using real world examples to work on problem solving. There will be no quiz or test this week. There will be homework on Tuesday and Thursday this week, which will be a review of our first unit. 9/26/11 - This week we will be finishing up our unit on basic math concepts and number sense.
