What the Learning Center is
The learning center is a place where students come to get direct help in math and reading. We have three teachers and each teacher works with 2-5 students at a time. This low student to teacher ratio allows the students to make progress towards understanding grade level concepts at the pace they require, with the benefit of immediate feedback. After each chapter test in math, and each cluster test in reading, the groups are reconfigured in order to give help where help is needed most. Therefore, your student may start out the year in the learning center, but then be exited after the first or second test depending on the growth they have made.
If the Evergreen Staff feels that your student would benefit from the help the Learning Center has to offer you will receive a permission slip notifying you of their placement. If you have any questions about the learning center please feel free to call or email (contact information listed above).
Tips
The best way to increase fluency is for your student to read more. As a school we are asking each student to read at least 30 minutes each evening. To help with fluency have your student read at least two of the pages from the book they are reading aloud to you each night.
