The First Nations and Early European Explorers
The First Nations
Although scientists think that the Aboriginal people arrived in North America after crossing a land bridge from Asia or perhaps sailing across the ocean in small boats, their legends tell that they have always been here.
The Early European Explorers
Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue to what is now South America in 1492... except he thought he was in India. Oops.
John Cabot sailed to what is now Newfoundland and Labrador in North America in 1534.
Jaques Cartier landed in what is now Quebec in 1534.
Until about fifty years ago, most people thought that Columbus was the first European to come to the Americas. How did a couple from Norway change that?
