(1) What is Stress?

  • Visit Stress Site #1 and define the following terms in your own words:
      -- stress
      -- stressor
      -- stress response
      -- good stress (eustress)
      -- bad stress (distress)
      -- resiliency

    (2) Are You Stressed?

  • Visit Stress Test A and Stress Test B and take each of the stress tests.

  • For each stress test, write in your notebook:
-- Which link (A or B) & name of stress test
-- A brief description (What kind of stress is being measured?)
      -- Your score
-- Analysis of your score (What do they say it means?)
-- Evaluation of your score (What do you think? Do you agree?)

    (3) Coping With Stress

  • Visit Stress Site #2 and list at least 12 ways you can build your resiliency

  • Visit Stress Site #3 and measure your resiliency (Write down the result in your notebook and describe what that means)

    Stress Journal
    Due Monday, October 19

For 10 days, keep a record of your stress:

    (A) Every 1-2 hours throughout each day (wake to sleep), do the following:
    1) Record the time of day
    2) Rate the stress you feel (1-10)
    3) Describe or indicate your current mood.
    4) Rate how efficient you are being—are you using your time well?

    Suggestions:
    * Create a chart to collect this data
    * Create a system of symbols/rating scales to answer #2-4 above (keep a key!)
    * Consider adding a brief description of any particular events (to help with part B)

    (B) Once each day complete the following:
    1) Describe the event (WHAT?)
    2) Describe when & where it occurred & who was involved
    3) Describe what made it stressful - why did you choose the rating you did?
    4) Describe how you handled the event
    5) Did you tackle the cause or symptoms? Explain.

    * Each reflection should be about 1/2 page in length
