Games and practice resources are now available to all students on quia for chapters 9 and 10. An activity on nuclear power (ch 16) was also added. Please committ to practicing your vocabulary and/skills for at least 30 minutes each week. Hint-hint, nudge-nudge: some of the questions on the games (challenge board, battleship, rags to riches, and vocabulary) are VERY SIMILAR to ones on the tests and quizzes! Yes, uh-huh!
Vocabulary quiz for ch 9 due by Thursday, Oct 21. Vocabulary Quiz for ch 10 due by Monday, Oct 25. Both will be available from home (or use school computer in morning) beginning Tuesday, October 19th.
TEST ON CH 9 and 10 is TUESDAY, October 26th. YOU WILL DO WELL if you know the vocabulary and you have kept up with your work.
Project assignments will take place this week with staggered due dates over the next 6 weeks.
We will be in the computer lab on October 22th for heat and wave interactive assignments and on the 27th to start project research and planning. (Most of the time spent on this project will be on your own time, so you will want to make good use of this opportunity.)
Reading and discussing, "The Story of Light", by Ben Bova will begin Monday, October 25th. (Most students have purchased this book already. It is available as a used book online only at amazon.com, half.com (20 used hard back for 1/2 price, 12 paperback copies at used prices) , also check: http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/b/ben-bova/story-of-light.htm (12 copies at half-price- these ship from the US) Do NOT Spend full price! I have a limited number of books that I can let students read either in the morning before school or after school. I will only check out a very few books. There were over 200 copies available just a few weeks ago- most at a cost of less than a dollar with $3.99 shipping. This book will be one of your sources for information on the year-end research paper.
(May I suggest that you start early for the remaining two books: "E=mc2", and "The Electric Universe", both by David Bodanis.
Amazon USED books has 235 copies of "E=mc2" available starting at $.99. Any edition is fine- hard cover, paperback, or yellow paperback. Buy now for the 3rd 9 weeks. There will be another teacher who is having her class get these in the next couple of months. New books are available at a much higher cost at local book stores ($12.00 paperback- but must be ordered)
Amazon has 90 used copies of "The Electric Universe" by David Bodanis available as well. (4th 9 weeks) Also available in bookstores.
ALL THREE BOOKS are available as audio books at audible.com. Currently, audible.com is offering a free book download per email address/credit card/ person to try their service. Hint-hint, nudge-nudge....
