THe 1st quarter is complete and report cards have gone home. Congratulations on making it through so far- and doing well!

I've posted some games that will help you learn vocabulary as well as concepts in science. Please play them as you can to help you learn the content. ;) By the way, I have been known to pull test questions from these activities...

Welcome to the 2014-2015 AWESOME school year!

Quia.com is the website that you will be using for almost all of your classroom tests and major quizzes. (They are all called "quizzes" on here, by the way.) You will also use this website for skills practice- vocabulary and concepts. We will continue to use gcps-karisalomon.onmycalendar.com (password is quia.com) for assignments and due dates.

Do NOT pay attention to the gradebook on quia.com. It is inaccurate as it reflects every attempt that students take at a quiz- even if the computer boots the student out (0).   So the average for two quizzes, with one time being kicked off of the school network could be: Quiz 1: 0 (kicked off of network), 80, Quiz 2: 100 with an average on quia.com of 0 + 80 + 100 (divided by 3) = 60.   The real average would be in my grade book: 80 + 100 divided by 2 = 90. BIG DIFFERENCE, yes? So, while the actual grade for the completed test is accurate, the overall grade book is NOT. Get it? *nods, winks, sighs of relief*...

For next week (August 11 - 15) there will be a survey, a vocabulary game (minerals, mining, and uses of minerals), a "rags to riches" or "other type of game" and practice test on minerals so that you can see how the tests look and how the grading (and my responses) are done. Believe me, it is good to play these games as I sometimes post questions that are "very similar" to the test questions.... *oh yes, she does*...
