People don't always agree, do they.....so how do you resolve conflict??!! Persuasion is a process of inducing others into accepting a point of view by means of reasoning and argumentation. Compromise is a process of making concessions to settle differences. Consensus building is a process of working toward achieving general agreement within a group. _____________________________________________________________ Day 1 AIM - Explain the differences between Persuasion, Compromise and Consensus AGENDA 1. Lecture - Examples of persuasion, compromise, consensus 2. Assignment - persuasion, compromise and consensus 3. Start discussing the topic you plan to choose. ASSESSMENT I can define persuasion, compromise, and consensus _______________________________________________________________ Days 2 and 3 AIM - set up in groups of 2 or 3 to prepare for project AGENDA Project - Set Up Here's how we're going to get set up for the project. 1. Chose a topic that you and your partner(s) want to discuss, but you must also have opposing views on it. Tell Mrs. Tiffany what your topic is first. (10 points) assignment 2. Conduct research and find 3 points from different legitimate websites that support your view. Type your 3 points and links on a word document and submit it in Schoology. (10 points) 3. Share your research with your partner(s). Decide whether your script will be a persuasive script, a script where you compromise, or a script where you reach consensus. 4. Then create a script together in a Word Document where you and your partner(s) are presenting your views for the purpose of persuasion, compromise, or consensus. Submit the finished script in Schoology. (20 points) assignment Note: when reading the script it should be about at least two minutes long. 5. Once Ms. Tiffany approves the script, decide how you want to do your presentation to the class - using a recording, power point slides, type it in discussion thread. ASSESSMENT 1. I can Prepare a script where I use persuasion, compromise or consensus. 2. I can resolve conflict with another person or persons using persuasion, consensus, or compromise. _______________________________________________________________ Days 4 and 5 AIM - Demonstrate knowledge and ability in the area of persuasion, compromise and consensus AGENDA 1. In class presentations (see list above) will be live in a Schoology Discussion Thread 2. Peer Review discussion thread in Schoology, will also be live. Your live presentation is worth 65 points and will be judged by the following criteria a. time - is the presentation at least 2 minutes long - 15 points b. topic - is the topic meaningful, thoughtful, and well developed 15 points c. does the presentation accomplish the goal of either persuasion, compromise or consensus - does the topic resolve conflict - 20 points c. do all contributors listen to responses and respond correctly - respectfully - 15 points ASSESSMENT 1. I can resolve conflict with another person or persons through persuasion, consensus, compromise. _______________________________________________________________ Topic - Civic Participation and Skills, Content Statement 4 - The process of persuasion, compromise, consensus building and negotiation contribute to conflict and difference resolution.
