Project - Escape and Evade

Objectives:
The overall objective of this project is to simulate World War II technology to escape and evade the enemy.
In addition, students will
1. Explain the difference between an escapee and evader
2. Gain insight on the different set of rules escapees and evaders were subject to in WWII Europe.
3. Create a fake id in Paint or Photoshop using escape and evade information from the American Air Museum website (research based)
4. Interpret and understand an escape and evade map (no GPS)
5. Pronounce correctly (given a translation table) common German, French, Italian, and Spanish phrases (no Google translator)
Participate in an escape and evade activity using the map, fake id, currency, and translation table

What's the difference between and escapee and an evader?
An Escapee is one who has already been captured, for example, a POW, If the prisoner was able to escape, he or she had to turn to evasion tactics.
An Evader is one who has not been captured. Many World War II evaders were either Army Air Core (USAF) if they were from the United States, the Royal British Air Force (RAF) if they were from England, or they were in a branch of special forces.

Days 2 and 3
AIM use primary resources for a research project

AGENDA
1. Create a Fake ID using information from the following link if you are an Allied Soldier
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CREATING A FAKE ID
Instructions:
Download ID into Paint or Photoshop and complete the following tasks
1. Photo - Delete or erase the photo image and add your black and white image - take a selfie if you can
2.Thumbprint - Delete or erase the fingerprint image. When your Fake ID is finished you'll add your own thumbprint.
3. Identity - to select your identify go to the American Air Museum website. If you can, select and identity with YOUR last name.

Click the Browse button. In the Search Archive box type "escape and evade" and choose an identity from the thousands of entries
4. With your new identity add the following information to your Fake ID
Name - German for first name
Vorname - German for last name
Staatsangelorightkeit - Nationality (the country you were born in)
Gerburtsdatum - Date of birth
Geburtsort - Place of birth
Gewicht - Weight
Haafarbe - Skin color
Serial Number (Service Number)
Date of Birth (make one up if it isn't provided using an appropriate birth year)
5. Resize your Fake ID to approximately the size of a passport (4" x 6")
To resize click the "Select" box, click "Resize" and change the number to 85
6. Save your Fake ID

ASSESSMENT
1. Demonstrate ability to use translation table, read school map and negotiate with fake ID by ACTIVITY - Students will assume roles - escapees and evaders will try to make it back to Paris and the enemy will try to prevent them from doing this.
