FOSSIL - special rock that holds the shape of something that lived very long ago. For this activity we are creating leaf and shell fossils. Then we’ll draw picture of them like scientists do. A scientist who studies fossils is called a Paleontologist.

Materials
1. Sea shell
2. Leaf
3. Playdough

ACTIVITY  - Fold your paper so it has 4 squares. Write 1, 2, 3, 4 in each square.
1. Flatten the Playdough.
2. Press the FRONT of the leave down, then pull it out of the Playdough.
3. Measure the length and width of the leaf and write the numbers in Square 1.
4. Draw a picture of the leaf FRONT in Square 1 of your paper.

1. Flatten the Playdough.
2. Press the BACK of the leaf down, then pull it out of the Playdough.
3. Measure the length and width of the leaf and write the numbers is Square 2.
4. Draw a picture of the leaf BACK in Square 2 of your paper.

1. Flatten the Playdough.
2. Press the FRONT of the shell down, then pull it out of the Playdough.
3. Measure the length and width of the shell and write the numbers is Square 3.
4. Draw a picture of the shell FRONT in Square 3 of your paper.

1. Flatten the Playdough.
2. Press the BACK of the shell down, then pull it out of the Playdough.
3. Measure the length and width of the shell and write the numbers is Square 4.
4. Draw a picture of the shell BACK in Square 4 of your paper.
