Hi Scholars! Welcome to Apologetics Overview | THY 516-616. I’m excited to have you in this course. Whether you are pursuing your M.Div. or D.Min., my goal is to challenge you to think more deeply, communicate more clearly, and become more confident in your ability to explain and defend the Christian faith. Throughout this course, we will explore some of the most important questions facing Christian leaders today. We’ll examine worldview, logic, evidence, Scripture, theology, culture, and the objections people commonly raise about Christianity. But this course is about more than learning how to answer difficult questions. It is about learning how to engage people well. There is a difference between winning an argument and winning an opportunity to influence someone. As ministry leaders, theologians, pastors, and educators, we must be able to stand firmly on truth while still representing Christ with wisdom, humility, and grace. My encouragement to you is simple: come ready to think, question, research, discuss, and grow. Don’t be afraid of difficult questions. Strong faith is not threatened by thoughtful examination. In many cases, wrestling honestly with difficult questions can deepen both our understanding and our conviction. As Peter reminds us: “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” — 1 Peter 3:15 That is what we are going to learn to do—and to do it well. I’m looking forward to walking through this course with you. -Dr. Kevin Truett
