This general introduction to contemporary psychology focuses on basic concepts, principles, terminology, and trends in psychological research. Topic include biological behavior, sensation and perception, consciousness, learning, memory, cognition, intelligence, motivation, emotion, human development, personality and abnormal behavior. Credit Hours: 3.0 per semester Court Objectives and Course Outline A. Course Objectives a. to develop an understanding of psychology and be aware of the various disciplines within the field of psychology. b. To describe the features of the scientific method and demonstrate critical thinking. c. To understand the widespread application of psychology and discuss how the major psychological principles and theories can be applied to real life situations. d. To gain a working knowledge of the concepts, theories, methods, terminology and research finding appropriate to the field of psychology. e. Research Article Analysis · Students will locate research articles from professional journals and identify the main research method components within it · Specific information and examples will be available during class instruction Research Projects · Two Experiments will be completed of a psychological issue · One Research Paper will be written in APA style concerning a topic to be approved by instructor (3 to 5 pages)
