TELEMETRY EQUIPMENT COMPETENCY (Read info and take quiz) --At the start of each shift, it is the nurses' responsibility to confirm the patients' rhythm on the monitor is as reported, is transmitting with a good signal, and to check patient leads for proper placement and secure attachment --Upon reciving your pager, you must check that the pager is on, the battery is at least half full, and the alert system is active to notify you of all alarms. --The EASI pattern allows the nurse to view the patients' rhythm in 12 leads, whereas the standard pattern only allows viewing of 2 leads. --It is the resource nurse's responsibility to admit the patient into the telemetry system and add the patient to the appropriate nurse's pager. The resource nurse is also expected to have the medical record number entered into the telemetry computer confirmed by another nurse to confirm accuracy. --If a telemetry monitor or lead wires are malfunctioning, the resource nurse will assign replacement equipment and tag malfunctioning equipment for repair. --It is the nurse's responsibility to do the initial placement of the telemetry monitor onto the patient. --It is the nurse's responsibility to confirm their patients' rhythm every two hours and document telemetry measurements of heart rate, PR, QRS and QT intervals every four hours. --At the end of the shift, it is the nurse's responsibility to review all alarms, delete false alarms and save a representative sample of alarms. --After confirming pager settings, the nurse must then confirm that their telemetry patients are assigned to the correct pager.
