Grammar Project:
Write a 7th Grade Grammar Manual
In preparation for our final exam this year, you will each create your own grammar manual. This manual will encompass everything we have learned in grammar this year, so creating this booklet for yourself will be an excellent way to study! You may use your notes, your text book, websites or any other resources you can find to help you. The required contents are listed below, and you will be graded based on presentation and whether or not you include all the things on this list. Your final manual may be typed or hand written, colorful or black and white; it MUST be CLEARLY legible and easy to understand, and the more creative and attractive the final product, the better.

I love ice cream. There is nothing like it. It is delicious and even good for you. There are many important ingredients for health. One is milk. Sometimes even eggs go in ice cream. Another is sugar. A third is what ever flavoring. Chocolate can be healthy for you. So can fruit ingredients. Cream is another ingredient. Then there's what you put on top to make it even better. There can be sprinkles, hot fudge, caramel, whipped cream. These don't make it so healthy for you, though. Even though ice cream isn't always healthy, it has some parts that are good for you. These are all the reasons I love ice cream.
New 5 Paragraph Essay Writing Assignment
For this assignment your work will be considerably more independent than previously. You must write a 5 paragraph essay on any topic that fits within the idea of "What Matters Most to Me." Some possible areas you might consider writing about are: passions, values, morals, beliefs, faith, goals, politics. While you do have free choice here, you must be sure that what ever subject you choose addresses the underlying theme of what matters most to you in life!
The first draft, typed, double-spaced, fully edited for technical writing issues such as spelling, punctuation, indentation and typos is due in class on TUESDAY 2/23. You will have some class time on Friday and Monday to work on this, but most of the time you spend will be at home on your own.

*2 sections within a 3-ring binder devoted to English: one labeled "Writing," the other labeled "Cells."
*an ample supply of lined paper and writing utencils (pencil and pen, both)
Grading Percentiles
In English your grade is divided between in four ways: 30% is based on written work; 30% is based on grammar exercises, quizes and tests; 30% is based on vocabulary work (this includes cells); and 10% is based on class participation.
Late Work and Redo's
In the Middle School, we have a universal policy that work turned in one day late (unexcused) will be given an 80% of its earned grade, and any further days late the assignment earns a zero. Zero's are extremely deleterious to your over-all grade average in any class, so be sure to get all work in on time!
If given permission to retake a test, quiz or redo an assignment due to a very poor grade, the maximum possible grade on the redo/retake is 80%.
Homework
Every week the homework for every night will be posted on this website, and often exercises for homework will themselves be found here. It is every student's responsibility to ensure they are able to access this website, and everyone will be held responsible for knowing the information posted here. I recommend you have a back-up plan for those occasions which inevitably arise when unexpectedly your home access to the internet is interrupted. Plan ahead with a neighbor or friend whose computer you could use, know where the nearest public library is, etc.

I once visited a planetarium. It was a fascinating place. Before the lecture, I wandered around the building and looked at the many displays. One exhibit showed various comets. Another displayed a meteorite of more than thirty-four tons. It fell to earth many years ago and left a crater in the earth’s surface. Meteorites caused the thousands of craters on the moon, also.
After a few minutes a group of us went into the large lecture room. The lecturer was ready for us. She stood beside a large, strange-looking machine. It recreated the stars, the moon, and the sun on the great dome-shaped roof of the room. The lecturer dimmed the lights, and the dome appeared full of stars. In fact, more stars were visible than on the clearest night. The lecturer showed us the heavens of centuries ago. We also got a glimpse of future skies. At the end of the lecture, we were quiet and awe-struck. Our universe is full of wonders!
