Welcome to Ms. Minton’s Classroom Website!
Thanks for visiting my homepage! Here you'll find announcements and resources to help you stay on top of things in 3rd grade this year. At the bottom of the page, you'll find some websites and games to help you prepare for upcoming tests. These "Quia Activities" are updated each week and are designed to help you pass your weekly tests. Under the "Useful Links" heading, you'll find a list of websites that you might want to check out. These sites are updated periodically as I encounter new and exciting resources that I think you'll enjoy. I hope you'll take the time to check this site several times throughout the week. It can prove to be invaluable if you forget when something is due or if you're out sick for several days and don't want to get behind. If at anytime you need to get in touch with me, just click on the link above.
What we're doing during the week of November 8, 2010
This week's lessons will focus on the following:
Now that our study of basic multiplication has finished up, we are going to begin working on division. A link between the multiplication and division facts will be created as we discuss fact families. Though we will be moving on to division, students will continue to practice with timed multiplication facts. A timed test will be given again this week. Students are encouraged to continue studying these facts at home via flashcards, timed worksheets, or online games. Students will be expected to complete 40 problems in 2 minutes on their test. There are many websites out there for students to use while working on their facts, including the one provided by the makers of our math textbook. The website address for this site is www.eharcourtschool.com. The login is ppurr3 and the password is mlces. Once there, click on the link to our book, then the chapter and lesson. Activities and tutorials are located on the left side of the page. Due to the Veteran's Day holiday on Thursday, math homework will only be given on Monday and Tuesday this week. Please check your child's agenda book for specific details each night.
Science, Social Studies, and Health This week is our last week of social studies for this nine weeks. We will finish up our study of government, Greece, and the origins of democracy. Students will also learn how the Olympic games and architecture have been influenced by Greece. A test will be given on Wednesday, November 10th. Study guides/worksheets should have been brought home by your child this past week. Review these with your child and it should help them to prepare for the test.
