Welcome to Mrs. Basham's Web Page!
Welcome students and parents to the 2010-2011 4th Grade School Year! Fourth grade is a new and exciting time. Independence and responsibility are the key words and focus for the year. This is what we are working on in each subject:
Math: This week we are studying pattens and equations. The students should be able to recognize the rules for a pattern and be able to extend the pattern. Also, I cannot stress how important it is to study and master the multiplication tables.
Reading: We are currently reading the novel "Misty of Chincoteage" by Marguerite Henry. This novel corresponds with our study of Virginia because it is based on a true story that happened in the 1940s on the Eastern Shore islands of Assateague and Chincoteague. Be sure to ask your child questions and discuss the story with them as this helps with comprehension. Grammar/English: We are currently studying nouns. This includes common, proper, and plural nouns.
Spelling: This weeks words our from the story "I Love Guinea Pigs." The words are compound words. See this week's word list below. Nightly homework is as follows: Monday Night: ABC Order Tuesday Night: Sentences Wednesday Night: Five Times Each PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL SPELLING HOMEWORK MUST BE DONE IN CURSIVE!
VA Studies: We will begin our unit on Jamestown, which was the first permanent English settlement in America.
Science: We will begin our unit on plants and animals.
