Course Objectives:
The English 12 student will use organizational skills, audience awareness, appropriate vocabulary and grammar, and both verbal and nonverbal presentation skills to plan and deliver an effective 5-10 minute formal oral presentation. Students will analyze British literature and literature of other cultures, with attention to classic works. In addition, students will read informational and technical texts and continue to develop their own reading process skills. Writing will include producing technical, expository, and analytical papers. Students will follow a basic skeletal plan for a five-paragraph essay with adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases, and clauses. Attention will also be given to effective sentence combination, parallel structure, and usage problems. Each student will produce a well-documented major research paper as well.
