COMPUTER LAB

MES COMPUTER LAB

Our lab has 27 new flat panel iMac and 2 eMac computers available for students and staff. They all have CD-DVD/RW Superdrives. We also have a few older iMac computers that are be used for word processing and internet searches. All of the computers are connected to our district intranet network and the internet. Through a program known as MacShare, all of our students may access their files from any computer in the building. This allows students to review and revise saved work at times other than their class lab time.

All classes meet for 45 minutes per week for computer instruction and any teacher can bring their class to the lab during non-instruction periods for group technology activities. We have Instituted a program where classes come to the computer lab for Curriculum Integrated Activities (CIA). Our Title 1 math students use the lab before school in order for students to practice their math skills using networked math software.

Our computer program follows the Merrimack School Districts Technology Guidelines and Long-Range Technology Plan in creating our technology lessons. Our goal is to instruct and assist students in how to use the computers and associated software as tools to stimulate and enrich their classroom learning experiences.

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

James Mastricola Elementary School is one of four elementary schools in Merrimack, NH. The town of Merrimack is in Hillsborough County, situated in the south-central part of New Hampshire. Its current population is 26,500. Merrimack has experienced rapid growth in the last 25 years and has increased almost seven fold. Major industries include investment and computer related companies, chemical manufacturers, a brewery, instrument and a copy processes manufacturing. Merrimack serves as a bedroom community for Manchester and Nashua, NH and to northern Massachusetts. Our attendance at JMES is comprised of the older, more established neighborhoods adjacent to Baboosic Lake. Since it's inception in 1962, JMES has undergone three building projects. Our facility now includes a large gymnasium, an art room, music room, library, and computer lab. There are typically four classrooms at each grade level, first through fourth grades, public Kindergarten started in September 2005 and in 2009 we added a preschool program. Our student-teacher ratio is in the high teens to high twenties. We are well supported in the area of special education and are privileged to have a Special Education Coordinator, a guidance counselor, a school psychologist, a behavior specialist, and five special education teachers on staff full time. We also have a full time reading specialist, speech/language pathologist, ESL teacher, and half-time occupational therapist. There are twenty full time para-educators who work with students 1:1 or in small groups within the classroom. We house the PASS program, which is a district wide program for behaviorally challenged students. This program is staffed with an EH certified behavior specialist and four para-educators. In addition to our special education staff we have a full time art, music, physical education, and certified computer specialist. Children receive 45 minutes of specialized instruction in these areas weekly. Our library is an integral part of school, which is staffed with a full time librarian and media assistant. Our day custodian, school nurse, and Gateway teachers are highly visible members of the team. Finally, our cafeteria, staff, lunchroom monitors, and parent volunteers complete the roster. Welcome to our school!
