A)  EL PROYECTO DE LAS ARTES -  Choose one of the TEN options below:
Visual Arts
1. Mask: Make a mask and do a presentation in class that explains the technique of making a mask, the importance of masks in Latino culture and what the mask symbolizes. (individual)  
                                                                                                                       
          
2. Art Exhibit: Go to a Latin art exhibit and do a presentation for the class. (individual)
                                                          

3. Mural:  Make a mural that represents a social theme or topic. Do a presentation for the class. (Groups of 3)
       
                                      
4. Mural Video/Poster: Make a poster or video of Latino murals in San Francisco, and present in class or do a video. (Groups of 2-3)

5. Santo:  Make a santo and do a presentation that explains the technique for making a santo, the importance of santos in Latino culture and what your santo symbolizes. (individual)
            
Music

6. Music class:Take a Latino music class, make a presentation about the music and explain the origin of the music, etc. (individual)

7. Latino music concert:  Go to a concert and make a presentation about the artist and the performance. (individual)

8. Latino song: Learn the words of a Spanish song (no notes) and play it on your favorite instrument in front of the class. (individual)

Dance
9. Dance class: Take a Latino dance class, teach the dance to the class in Spanish and/or make a presentation in class that describes the dance, its origin, its popularity today, etc.  (individual)
                   

10. Dance performance: Attend a performance of Latino dance, and make a presentation to the class that describes the dance, its origin, its popularity today, etc.  (individual)
                    
Other ideas: ceramics, piñata, god’s eye, etc. (Make sure you see me for approval)
Due date: Monday, May 4th, 2009

B) PRESENTACION ORAL (counted as test) - 40 points -  due May 4th!
• In your best possible Spanish, talk about your project to the class (4-5 minutes individual / 8-10 minutes in groups).  If working in a group, all classmates must have equal speaking time.
Requisitos para tu presentación
Debes incluir lo siguiente:
. qué hiciste para el proyecto o por qué escogiste este tema
. el origen de este tipo de arte, música, o baile en el mundo latino
. el significado  histórico  de ese tipo de arte en el mundo latino o  la importancia de ese tipo de arte en el mundo latino (qué simbolizan la máscara, el/los mural(es), etc.)
. la técnica y los materiales que usaste si hiciste un ojo de Dios, un santo, una máscara, un mural, etc
. por lo menos, usa 5 expresiones con el presente del subjuntivo

• Please let the teacher know in advance if you want a speaking certificate for your sophomore portfolio.

Note: Don't procrastinate!If you are late presenting your project, every day late will cost you a deduction of 10 points.
