Salvete, Discipuli!
This is the QuiaWeb site for AP Latin at Thornton Academy. Here you will find many useful items, including upcoming assignments; links to important and interesting sites on Vergil, the exam, and Latin, in general; activities and quizzes to do online; and other important information. Check back here often for updates and new material.
SUMMER ASSIGNMENT: You must read the Aeneid in English and complete the accompanying book worksheets. These should be done online. Below you will find links to the Book Quizzes (which are the same questions as on the worksheet) for books 3, 5, and 6 (books 1, 2 and 4 will mostly be read in Latin, so the book questions will be less important). These quizzes (or the worksheet print-outs) will be due on the first day of class (August 31). They will count as your first homework assignment; failure to do them on time will mean getting zeros for the first assignments. Let me know if you have any questions.
Important Course information:
Click here for the College Board's description of the AP syllabus and test. Look over this information carefully, especially the description of the various sections of the test itself. But don’t let this material scare you—this test is to be taken many months from now, when you will, in fact, be well-prepared to take it.
Your textbooks are Vergil's Aeneid: Selections from Books 1, 2, 4, 6, 10, & 12 by Barbara Weiden Boyd. Copies of these will, of course, be provided to you to use during the school year, but if you'd like to buy them your own (the cost of the paperbacks are about $37.00 each at Borders, though you can order it online from another book seller.
The following handouts were included in your packet. Use them to complete the activities listed below. Please e-mail me with any questions you have over the material.
