23-24 AP Spanish SUMMER Tarea de verano

Introducción a la profa de AP:

¡Hola!  La mayoría de Uds. ya me conocen.  ¡Soy la Señora Theis y enseño clases de español desde el año 1995!  Éstas incluyen la clase de AP desde 2012.  Soy vieja pero divertida, cariñosa, y simpática.  A veces tengo mucha energía...y a veces no.

(Everything is due by the first Friday that we are in session for the 23-24 school year.)

I.  YABLAS-  I have moved you to my Yabla AP class.  Simply use Yabla with the same username and login as always, but you´ve moved up to AP.  You will see assignments posted to help develop and maintain your Spanish ear as well as increase vocabulary over the summer.  Yablas are due by the first Friday of the school year...if you finish them after the first Friday but before the second Friday, you can still get half credit.  Each Yabla activity is worth 2 points.  This is an easy way to really cushion your grade for first quarter.

II.  COLBY GRAMMAR REVIEW-  AP is about use, not grammar.  We focus on using language in reading, speaking, listening, and writing.  It´s all about USE.  I do review a bit of grammar quickly here and there on an as-needed basis, but you need to have an accurate working knowledge before beginning AP.  You know what you need.  Go here:
https://personal.colby.edu/~bknelson/SLC/    and look at the right hand side list in red that says ¨Äctivities¨.  Choose topics from the right side that you know you still struggle with.  Practice items will be given, and the nice thing is that this website gives you feedback- it will tell you if you got them right or wrong, and very frequently WHY they´re right or wrong.  Love it!  Use those topics on the right to review anything you are still a bit weak ¨flojo¨ on before starting AP in the fall.  There is nothing to turn in, but I do expect you to have a working primarily accurate knowledge of these topics before beginning AP.  Remember, amigos don´t let amigos be flojos!

III.  VIDA Y MUERTE EN LA MARA SALVATRUCHA

Order the reader:  Vida Y Muerte En La Mara Salvatrucha ($9.00) here:

https://www.waysidepublishing.com/languages/spanish/vida-y-muerte-en-la-mara-salvatrucha

You need the student soft cover print book.

Amazon also has it, but it is more expensive there.  However, they do sell used copies very inexpensively.  Order in early June so you have plenty of time to receive your reader and to finish reading it before August.

This is an easy and small confidence-building Spanish reader about the tragedy of violent gang life in the deadly pandillas (gangs) formed by immigrants from El Salvador that have moved to Los Angeles and elsewhere, called La Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13.  It has a FABULOUS glossary in the back to help you with any words you do not recognize!  You will review all verb tenses, vocabulary, and build confidence in your abilities as you use them to pull together all the grammar you have studied in your first four years of Spanish while learning about the origins of this pandilla. This Spanish reader uses an educational strategy called comprehensible input, where students build confidence in their abilities and review verb structures through use in a simple text with excellent support in the glossary.

Before reading Vida y Muerte En La Mara Salvatrucha, please view all of the links below on this same topic.  ¡Son muy interesantes!
