A HACER COMPARACIONES: La CUARENTENA TRADICIONAL DEL PASADO En Sudamérica
Esta información es bastante interesante que trata de una tradición antigua latinoamericana al dar la luz que también se llama: La Cuarentena
So- Cuarentena means Quarantine. Yes, during the worst of the Coronavirus, we all know what Quarantine means, but in Latin America, especially South America, traditionally this has another meaning...it was and is a 40 day period, after a woman has a baby, where she is to take it easy, take extra care of herself, rest, and recover, while receiving extra help as she welcomes her new baby and regains her strength. Today you are going to learn about that tradition and compare it with what is done in your own culture or perhaps another world culture with which you are familiar. Here´s what to do:
1. Lean Uds. los dos artículos sobre este tema y vean un video (por abajo...Useful links) y después, contesten las siguientes preguntas. Examinen Uds. el vocabulario útil para incluir algunas de estas expresiones en sus respuestas.
Read the two articles about this topic and see the video (turn on the closed captioning, she uses vos...a very thick South American Spanish accent- and she talks FAST, but watch with the CC option on and see what you can recognize as she gives advice for women during their Cuarentena) Your resources are posted under Useful Links below per usual.
2. Al completar los artículos y el video, hagan Uds. la prueba. Upon completing the two articles (one is in English!) and the video, take the exit ticket quiz. Below are several PLUG-IN expressions you may incorporate in your exit ticket comparison...please DO steal them!! They are here for you to USE. That´s why I call them PLUG-IN expressions...the goal is for you to PLUG THEM IN, use them, and pick them up. While memorizing is one way to learn how to say things, if we can repeatedly INCORPORATE certain expressions in meaningful thoughtful self expression several times, we can ´pick up' those expressions in a more natural way that sticks and is instantly useful. So again, USE several of these plug-in expressions today.
In case you are wondering WHY we are doing this, it is because one very important AP task is to know about cultural similarities and differences of the Hispanic world, and to be able to compare and contrast with your own and other cultures. You´ll need to be able to demonstrate your ability to do this on the AP test. This helps you learn how :-)
LOOK OVER THE FOLLOWING VERY HELPFUL PLUG-INS! This will help build your vocabulary and advanced structures for AP test and refresh your memories. STEAL THESE AND USE THEM LIBERALLY!!! Change forms as necessary.
