Acid & Base Objectives: The student should be able to: 1. define: hydronium ion, hydroxide ion, titration, indicator, strong acid, weak acid, strong base, weak base, diprotic acid, buret, molarity, pH, neutralization reaction, Arrhenius acid, Arrhenius base, pOH 2. calculate the pH of an acid given the [H+] 3. calculate the pH of an acid given the chemical formula for the acid and its concentration (molarity) 4. calculate the pH of a base given the chemical formula for the base and its concentration 5. know that pH + pOH = 14 6. use the formulas pH = -log [H+], pOH = -log[OH-] 7. know the properties of an acid vs the properties of a base 8. calculate the concentration of either an acid or base in a titration problem
