Chapter 8
Stoichiometry Objectives

The student will be able to:
1.  define stoichiometry, excess reactant, limiting reactant, percent yield, theoretical yield, balanced chemical equation, molar mass, mole ratio
2.  calculate the number of moles of one substance in a balanced reaction equation given the number of moles of a second substance in that reaction.
3.  calculate the number of grams of one substance in a balanced reaction equation given the number of grams of a second substance in that reaction.
4.  Be able to identify the limiting and excess reactants in a chemical reaction by calculating the grams of product produced in a batch with each of the given reactants.
5.  Be able to identify what size batch you can make when given quantities for a limiting and excess reactant by calculating the grams of product produced in a batch with each of the given reactants.
6.  calculate the "left over" grams of excess reactant by determining how many grams are needed to make the limiting batch and then subtracting from the number of grams given.
