Objectives for chapter 12 - thermal energy 1) define: temperature, thermal energy vs heat, specific heat, entropy, heat of fusion, heat of vaporization, conduction convection, radiation, kinetic molecular theory, thermal equilibrium, insulator, conductor, thermometer 2) Know the 1st and 2nd law of thermodynamics and what thermal energy and temperature phenomena is dictated by each. 3) Be able to use the Q = mCp(delta t) formula to determine any of the four variables given the other three. 4) Know when to use the Q= mCp(delta t) formula vs Q=mHv or Q=mHf 5) Use Q=mCp(delta t) to determine quantities when substances are brought into equilibrium and one substance has lost heat while another has gained. 6) Be able to use the Q = mHv or Q= mHf formulas when appropriate 7) Be able to combine the Q=mCp(delta t) and Q=mHv and Q=mHf formulas to calculate quantities when substances are changing state and temperature. 8)know the relationship between Cp and a substances ability to conduct heat
