Know the following: 1. Know definitions for wave, vibration, longitudinal wave, transverse wave, mechanical wave, sound wave, electromagnetic wave, wavelength, frequency, period, wave velocity, transmitted wave, reflected wave, inverted wave, erect wave, law of superposition, destructive interference, constructive interference, node, antinode, standing wave, refraction, diffraction 2. Know what occurs to a wave that originates in one medium, hits the boundary of a second medium. What happens to the wavelength, frequency, velocity and amplitude of the transmitted wave and what happens to the wavelength, frequency, velocity, amplitude and (erect or inverted)nature of the reflected wave 3. Be able to calculate velocity, wavelength or frequency, given two of three variables. 4. Be able to calculate the velocity of a wave given how long and how far it travels. 5. Be able to calculate the period of a wave given its frequency.
