Objectives:
1. Be able to define organic chemistry, organic compound, hydrocarbon, branched hydrocarbon, alkane, alkene, alkyne, alkyl, hydroxide, carbonyl, homologous series, alcohol, aldehyde, ketone, carboxylic acid, ester, ether, amine, alkyl halide, aromatic hydrocarbon, saturated hydrocarbon, unsaturated hydrocarbon, isomer
2. Know the general formulas for each of the hydrocarbon types
3. Be able to draw multiple structural isomers for a given chemical formula
4. Given the name of any hydrocarbon, alcohol, alkyl halide, carboxylic acid, ester, ether, or amine be able to draw the structure.
5. Given the structure for any hydrocarbon, alcohol, alkyl halide, carboxylic acid, ester, ether, or amine be able to name the compound.
6. Relate carbon's properties to its ability to form so many compounds.
7. Know basic properties for each of the types or organic compounds studied
