TASK You and your group will use specific websites and your prior knowledge to research the life and rule of Napoleon Bonaparte, keeping a tabulation of both his positive and negative moments and decisions. You will keep record of your reasoning on the Napoleon judgment grid (given to you in class). Your judgment will be based on two major criteria: domestic policy and foreign policy. You will organize your judgments into a report card format, grading both his effort and his achievement in each of these categories. Finally, you will evaluate Napoleon, giving his legacy a passing or failing grade, making sure to support your decision with facts. The Process Split your group into two sub-committees, the domestic sub-committee and the foreign sub-committee. It is each sub-committee's responsibility to review the web resources and evaluate the information within each site, paying special attention to its focus (either domestic or foreign policy). Each sub-committee should then follow these steps: Step 1: While analyzing the content of each website, mark down specific examples on the judgment grid denoting positive and/or negative aspects of Napoleon's policies. Be as thorough as you possibly can. Was Napoleon successful in his policies? What were his intentions? Remember you may need to defend your interpretation to your classmates, because they may have taken a differing stance. Step 2: Each sub-committee should organize their information enough to present it to the other sub-committee of their group. The sub-committees will reconvene to compile and review all of the collected information. The domestic committee must present their information to the foreign committee and vice versa. Step 3: Each group must now come to an agreement on Napoleon's legacy and create a "presentation" report card in googledocs/powerpoint that will be presented to the class. The report card must include: 1. Napoleon's letter grade 2. explanations for his grade 3. explaination of the impact Napoleon had on nationalism in France and throughout Europe 4. and finally, your group's decision on his legacy (positive, negative, why?) Be creative and use images when making the report card. You want this to be interesting to the rest of the class. The presentation should be 3-5 minutes in length and explain your group's judgement in detail. Evaluation: You will be marked on these activities... 1. Napoleon Judgement Grid (one good detailed copy per group) 2. Presentation Mark (group mark)
