This site has a link to the College Board's official description of the test. Translation from Latin to English is an extremely important part of the test. YOUR TRANSLATIONS ON THE A.P. LATIN TEST HAVE TO BE AS CLOSE AND AS LITERAL AS POSSIBLE. OF COURSE, WORD ORDER IS GOING TO BE CHANGED IN TRANSLATION, BUT TRY TO TRANSLATE TO ENGLISH SO THAT SOMEONE COULD EASILY RETRANSLATE YOUR ENGLISH BACK TO THE ORIGINAL LATIN. FOR EXAMPLE, TRANSLATE PLURAL LATIN NOUNS INTO PLURAL ENGLISH NOUNS. DO THE SAME FOR CASE. YOU ARE EXPECTED TO BE PRECISE AND UNAMBIGUOUS WITH THE MEANINGS OF THE VERBS YOU TRANSLATE (i.e. GERERE HAS MORE THAN ONE MEANING, OF WHICH THE STUDENT HAS TO DETERMINE THE APPROPRIATE ONE BASED ON CONTEXT).

The required syllabus includes readings in Latin and English from Vergil's Aeneid and Caesar’s Gallic War. Reading in English helps students identify significant themes, central characters, and key ideas in the Latin passages.
The course will periodically practice sight readings of other Latin works not mentioned above. This is because the A.P. test contains readings not among the required texts that you will not be asked to translate but will have to understand in order to respond to multiple choice questions.
