CHOLET UPDATE - October 19, 2008
Hello Everyone.
I hope everything is going well to start the exchange. Here are a few items for you.
1. Niagara Falls. If you are an American citizen planning to go on the Niagara Falls trip on Wednesday, this is a reminder of a requirement that went into effect on January 31, 2008:
If you are 19 or older, you must have (a) a passport, or (b) birth certificate + photo ID (in other words, proof of ID + proof of citizenship). (Info from this web site .)
If you are 18 or younger, you will need proof of citizenship. A passport or birth certificate is sufficient. If you have your photo ID (driver's license or school ID) bring it even though it's not required, just to be on the safe side. (Info from this web site .)
If you need to obtain a copy of your birth certificate, it is not too late - in fact, I still need to do so myself. You can go to the Division of Vital Records located at 1910 West 26th Street, just east of the I-79 interchange (phone: 871-4261). Hours and procedure can be found at their website.
2. Monday There will be a lot of confusion Monday morning. We'd like your guests to follow your schedule, at least on Day 1. After that, there are variations which I'll mention later. Please do your best to get your guest and yourself to homeroom on time. FHS schools rules still apply to them (smoking, roaming the halls, backpacks, etc.) so we need your help with that. By the way, since they don't have lockers, they can leave their stuff in my classroom.
3. Merci! Thanks to everyone who helped getting things prepared for last night's reception.
4. Lunches. As you know, FHS Student Council will pay for the Cholet students' lunches. What I did not yet work out is the procedure. I have two ideas. One involves printing coupons, the other involves establishing an account like our FHS students do. On Monday morning I will check with the proper powers that be to get things set. It will be in place by lunch time.
5. Pictures. The first pictures are on the website. You can find them
here.
6. Variations. This is a follow-up to item #2 above. After the first day, the Cholet kids may choose to do things aside from following your schedule, such as: trade off and follow someone else's schedule (which means a different person may follow you some days) - this could be a full day or partial day, as long as everyone knows when and where to meet; spend time in my classes - in fact, I may try to get some to go with me to the middle school at some time; do their own work - they may have their own school work to catch up on and they are required to write reports on what they do here. For this they may need time in the library.
That's all for now.
Monsieur
