CHOLET UPDATE - May 23, 2011 - "Meetings, Flight & Hotel Info, Important Money Matters"

Meetings: A reminder that all parents are invited to a meeting this Tuesday, 6:00 pm in my classroom. The purpose is to answer any last minute questions and concerns you may have. Hopefully you are all at ease with how things are at this point in time. If you aren't, this meeting should help you get there. Some of you have been kind enough to send me some questions. If there are any more, please feel free to send them in advance. The meeting is not mandatory, but if you could let me know in advance if you plan to attend, I'd appreciate it. If you are unable to attend but would still like to meet with me, feel free to contact me and we can arrange another time to meet or just talk on the phone.
I will also have student meetings during tutorial this Monday and Tuesday. I plan to discuss some of the sites we will see on our trip, give a mini-lesson on the Paris Metro, and hit on a few other items. If need be, I will schedule other tutorial meetings later this week and/or next week.
Flight & Hotel Info: I became aware of the flight info a couple weeks ago, and I have shared it with the students. Sorry I haven't been able to post it until now. All flights are through American Airlines. The Fairview School District will provide the bus transportation to and from Cleveland. This document also has the list of hotels. The last bit of money information: As you will recall, there is one more money matter remaining; Cholet costs + tips for Tour Director and Bus Driver. The final amount that you will owe to me is $252.00 (check payable to Robert Hall). On Friday, June 9 I will deposit your checks into my bank account, then immediately purchase Traveller's Checks with that money. Before leaving Cholet I will exchange enough checks to pay Madame Bouvier for the Cholet expenses (explained below). Before our EF tour ends, I will exchange the rest to give as tips to the driver and Tour Director.
Unfortunately, the bus from Paris to Cholet, Cholet to Paris (2,230 euros or roughly $3150) costs much more than it did in 2009 (1233 euros or aprox. $1640). The High School in Cholet will pay for our transportation to and from Futuroscope as well as to and from Puy du Fou. They will also pay our admission to Futuroscope. We will pay our own admission to Puy du Fou (22 euros per person.) The recommended tip for the Tour Director is $6 per person per day. For the bus driver it's $3 per person per day. After converting the euros to dollars, arriving at a total, subtracting $600 (contribution from the FHS French Club) and dividing by seventeen, I arrived at the figure above.
