Last minute reminders

The bus to Cleveland leaves at 1:00 pm on June 11 from the FHS north lot (cafeteria side).

Remember your passports!!! We will not leave FHS until I have seen everyone's passport. (Feel free to ask to see mine.)

Remember the "3-1-1" rule for packing liquids in your carry-on. Check here . If you want to bring any liquids larger than 3.4 ounces, pack it in your suitcase. If you have any liquids larger than 3.4 ounces with you after your bags are checked, security will have you throw it out. If it is a beverage, finish drinking it before you get to security.

Answers to questions

How are we getting to the Cleveland Airport? We have Fairview School buses all set to go for each day.

Should we get a gift for our host family? Yes, that would be very nice.

What should we get as a gift for our host family? That could vary. Hopefully by now you've had a chance to get to know about your hosts and their familes. You could base a gift on that knowledge. Another nice idea is to get them something that is unique to this part of the country or even specifically to Erie - local chocolates, for example. Note: don't wrap the gift at home. There's a good chance it will be unwrapped and checked at airport security. You may pack the wrapping paper and wrap the gift in France before you give it to them (even after you've settled into your home). Or you can simply use a gift bag.

What's the best plan regarding cell phones? I recommend you check with your service provider. What I do (with AT&T) is get an international plan for the duration of our trip. I tell AT&T that I will only have it for two weeks, then cancel it when I return. And then I do. I do the same thing when the French come her in October. Check with your company to see what they say.

When we pack before the trip, should we leave space for souvenirs? Yes.

Is there a fee for checking luggage? According to the Air Canada website, for international flights, the first piece of checked luggage is free, each additional bag costs $100. The students know that they can only bring one suitcase. If each traveller brought two, the bags would not fit oin our buses' luggage compartments in France.

What's the weather going to be like? In my past experiences, I have found the summer weather to be very similar to Erie's summer weather. In June, 2011 we had very comfortable weather for most of the trip. We also had one cool (50's) rainy day and one day with temps in the upper 90's.
