CHOLET EXCHANGE UPDATE – February 9, 2015

(129 days!!!)

Dear Travelers and Parents,

I have some news to pass along to you.

Dates: Our departure and return dates have been set, though the exact times are still on the way. Everything has shifted three days. We now know that we will leave Fairview on Thursday, June 17 and return on Friday, July 3. On Friday, June 26 we will leave Cholet, travel to Paris and begin the EF portion of our tour. As soon as I have the exact flight arrangements, I will pass them on to you.

Nice/Riviera: As you know, EF offers the optional two-day extension to our tour that would takes up to the French Riviera. Since this would cost you an extra $500, in order for us to do this we would need a unanimous decision. Although I have not called for an official vote, I have spoken to some of you informally. Therefore I happen to already know that the vote would not be unanimous (meaning at least one traveler would prefer not to add this on). Therefore our tour will end in Paris. As I say each year to the travelers who don’t get their way, “You are still going to LOVE this trip!”

Transportation Paris to Cholet / Cholet to Paris: As soon as our flight information is known, I need to start working on our transportation from Paris to Cholet. As one of our students pointed out, the train would be cheaper than a bus (since there are only 15 in our group) and faster! We'd get to Cholet (and back to Paris much sooner! In 2013 I booked our train tickets from Paris to Cholet (Madame Bellanger in Cholet booked Cholet to Paris) and it was very easy. This time I would like to take care of both trips. In order for me to do that, I will need to collect that money from you in advance since I will be booking online and can’t cover the cost on my own. I will let you know the approximate cost soon, but I’m thinking it’s about $60 each way.

Fundraising: Shortly after Pulakos has finished their Valentine's Day "busy-ness", Mrs. Williams (Tasha's mom) has graciously offered to once again coordinate candy bar sales for us. More on that later.

Also, you still have the opportunity to sell items online through Great American. This is the company that handled our cookie dough sale. Unfortunately, cookie dough is not available through online sales. But many other nifty items are. Simon was able to earn about $140 in profit through these sales recently. If you'd like to try, go to gaschoolstore.com . Our account number is 3407541.

Bienvenue, Madame Youngs!: Lastly, I'd like to take this opportunity to let you know that Mrs. Sharon Lee Youngs (French 1 teacher to many of you) will be joining us on our trip. You may or may not be aware that Madame Youngs was one of the founders of the Fairview-Cholet Exchange. She started the exchange when she was teaching in the Carlisle, PA area. When she moved to NW PA, she brought the program with her to us. I know she is happy to be returning to Cholet and I am happy to have her join us.
