CHOLET EXCHANGE UPDATE – July 3, 2017
(101 days!!!)
Hello Host Families,
From time to time I will send out these updates to keep you informed and to request information from you. You will always be able to refer to them whenever you wish by going to the updates page of this site.
1. Merci! First of all, I can’t thank you enough for agreeing to host a Cholet student. The exchange between Fairview High School and the Lycée Renaudeau has been in existence since 1993. A major reason why it has continued so long is PEOPLE LIKE YOU! As I say year after year to the Fairview host families and to the Cholet host families in June, this program simply cannot continue without you! You will play such a huge role in making this a memorable experience of a lifetime for your guests. I am very happy to see returning host families (a sign that something must be going right). I am equally happy to welcome new host families to our program. We were in Cholet a couple weeks ago. The Fairview students and the Cholet students had a great time together and cannot wait to reunite in October. I truly hope that the experience turns out to be as exciting for you as it will be for the Cholet students and as it has for many hosts before you. Again, THANK YOU!
2. Two to go There are still two young men from Cholet for whom we have not found a host family, Adel and Maxence. Some of you have kindly offered to take a second student. I appreciate that and I may need to take you up on that. However I prefer to save that as a last resort. We will continue the search. If you know of anyone that you feel would be a great host, please talk to them. The students who traveled to Cholet, having met Adel and Maxence, have ideas of good matches too. I am confident we will soon find the homes we need.
3. Information needed, please - A: E-mail addresses. I am sure that I have all the student e-mail addresses I need. And I do have a few for parents. If I have your address, I sent this to you. Students, please check with your parents to see if they received this. If not, please show this to them and send me their address. If you would like me to have the e-mail address of both parents, that’s fine. Send me both. Merci!
4. Information needed, please - B: Actual addresses. There are many minor reasons why I need your address (google earth searches, etc.), and one major reason. Unlike when we go there, the French students need to complete an ESTA form (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) to come here. One piece of required information is your address. Please send that as soon as possible in an e-mail to me (hallr@fairviewschools.org) . (I will eventually ask for phone numbers [students and parents], too – no rush, but if you want to put that in the same e-mail, I’ll take it.)
5. Please write to your student While in Cholet, a few students told me they had not yet heard from their host. Making that initial contact is such an important step. If you (the student) have not yet written to your guest, please do so ASAP. If you have written and (after some time has passed) you have not received a reply, there may be an error. Please write to me. Include the e-mail address you have for the Cholet student and the address that you are using for yourself. I will pass that on to Madame Pineau and she will contact the student.
That’s all for this update. I will get in touch with you as needed. Have a great 4th!
Merci!
Monsieur
