CHOLET EXCHANGE UPDATE – September 17, 2017

(26 days!!!)

Hello Host Families,

Six items today:

remind.com In order to contact you throughout the exchange, I will attempt to create two accounts through remind.com; one group for students, one group for parents. I was going to do this on the summer trip, but with only eight students, it was easier to just send group texts. Now, with well over 20 FHS students and over 50 parents, I’ll take another shot at remind.com. You may have already received (or will receive soon) a notification saying you are in the group. This is a new idea for me. I used to send out a phone chain and then more recently a text chain. We will have a practice run or two soon. I still need four student numbers and two parent numbers. (I’ll contact them directly.) If this works, GREAT! (CHOUETTE!!). If not, we’ll revert to text chains. If any of you prefer a phone call rather than a text, please let me know.

Slight change in October 27th plan Originally the Choletais were going to fly from Cleveland to Newark at 6:00 am (with a departure from FHS at 2:30 am). That flight time has changed to 7:15 am. The new departure time from FHS is 3:15 am (second latest ever!). Unfortunately for them, this gives them less time in NYC. But on the bright side, we all get an extra 45 minutes of sleep!

Farewell Dinner – October 26 For many years we have had a farewell dinner the final night of the exchange. This year is no exception. If you refer to the “Host Duties and Expectations” Page you read before agreeing to host, item #10 gives “assigned” items to bring. Note 1: These are not set in stone. If your last name begins with a letter between A-L, but have a really fantastic dessert you’d like to share, go for it. We’re just trying to avoid having 26 desserts and no salad-like things. Note 2: In 2015 some parents had the idea of having a Thanksgiving theme for this dinner. If any of you would like to take the lead on trying that again, please let me know. Note 3: It’s tough to guess for sure, but there could be around 100 -130 people attending.

Excursion Update We can still take signups for Niagara Falls, Pittsburgh and Erie. Cleveland is closed. Anyone who would still like to sign up for Cleveland will be on a waiting list.

Free-time notes Note 1: Friday’s goerie had an article called 65 autumn activities to do in the Erie area If you’re still looking for something to do, check here (of course, there are some options you will immediately eliminate for obvious reasons). I have added a link on the “Free Time Ideas” Page . Note 2: On that same page I was mistaken. I misread the Erie Otters schedule and wrote that their first home game was not until November. (I learned my mistake by reading the aforementioned goerie article). I deleted that line.

June 2019 It may seem early, but within the next month or two, we will begin to take signups for our next trip to France. However, if you think you might sign up, you may want to be sure to participate in the cookie dough and tumbler fund raisers that start this week. Come to the meeting Tuesday during tutorial for details. (By the way, you can also earn college scholarship money during these same fund raisers. We’ll explain that too!)

That’s it for now!

Merci!
Monsieur
