CHOLET EXCHANGE UPDATE – July 20, 2018

Dear Travelers, Potential Travelers and Families,

I hope you’re enjoying your summer! Have you been keeping an eye on all the excitement in France recently? Saturday, July 14 was Bastille Day, France’s national holiday. Then the very next day, France wins the World Cup in soccer. And don’t forget the Tour de France which is in full swing – and on July 9 a time trial took place in Cholet! (See the route on this YouTube clip here.)

I do want to fill you in on something that is now at least a little bit clearer.

Extra costs during the homestay in Cholet You’ll recall from the Important Costs page, there are some amounts that are yet to be determined. I’ll address two of those here. Please keep in mind, none of this is final yet.

Transportation from Paris to Cholet, Cholet to Paris In the past with small groups we have taken a train and with larger groups we have taken a bus. Since we have 21 enrolled so far, the bus is the better option. According to Madame Christèle Pineau (one of the Cholet teachers), the cost of the bus (based on what the Cholet students did this past October) is approximately 2000 euros or about $2400. We will divide this cost evenly among all travelers. That’s roughly $114. But if one more student signs up, that will drop to $109. With two more, it’s $104, etc. That will be more precise in the spring.

Other activities while in Cholet While in Cholet we traditionally take day trips to area attractions. The two most popular are Futuroscope and Puy du Fou, two amazing parks. With the small groups we have had in the recent past, Renaudeau (our sister-school in Cholet) covered the admission and transportation on these trips. With our larger group this year, I doubted that Renaudeau would be able to still do this. So I asked Christèle. She met with her administration and gave me their reply. We will cover our own cost of admission to Puy du Fou (approx. $40), no charge for transportation. Renaudeau will cover our cost of admission to Futuroscope, we will help cover the cost of the bus. I don’t know what that amount is, but it will be MUCH less than the Paris to Cholet, Cholet to Paris bus since it is a much shorter distance and there will be twice as many passengers (the Cholet students will be with us).

That’s it for this update! If you are still one of the “maybes”, it’s not too late to join us, but we can only fit a few more. Go here for details. And if you have decided that you will definitely not travel with us, let me know and I’ll remove you from the list.

Merci!
Monsieur
