CHOLET EXCHANGE UPDATE – October 5, 2019
(6 days!!!)
Bonjour, Host Families,
Just under a week to go!! In today’s update there isn’t really much that’s new. But I do want to remind you of a few things. We touched on most of these at the recent student meeting. However, since some were unable to attend and some came late, recaps are included.
Communications
1. REMIND.COM for parents Parents, if you have not already done so, please join Cholet Exchange 2019 – Parents by clicking this link . Once everyone is in the group, I will do a practice run (preferably this Wednesday). This is how I will keep you informed on arrival times. If there is ever a delay on a bus trip back to FHS, I want to make sure you don’t wait longer than necessary in our parking lot. Also, since the chaperones will stay until every last child is picked up, we want to make sure a ride is here when they get back.
2. WHATSAPP.COM for students Many of you did join after the meeting last Tuesday. Many have not. The group is called Fvch Oct2019 host students. I did send a message to the students who have not yet joined. Yes, if there are two siblings in a host family, it’s not 100% necessary that both join. But I do want to at least make sure you are aware.
Social Media
Again, many have joined. This is not mandatory – but I do want you to be aware. There is a Facebook page called Fairview-Cholet Exchange 2019. You can find the direct link here . For Twitter and Instagram you are invited to follow me (fhsmonsieur on both). But what I’d really love is for you all to post pictures on any of these platforms - #fvch2019.
Excursions The deadline has passed and reservations are nearly set. If you are on a waiting list, I will keep you posted.
Farewell Dinner A - food This is a reminder that the meals I mention here are suggestions, not requirements. We just want to do our best to make sure we don’t end up with 26 desserts and nothing else. Please remember to also bring any utensils. We will have power strips and extensions cords for roasters and crock pots. But if you want to bring your own, feel free.
Farewell Dinner B – activities At our meeting we discussed possible entertainment ideas, but I don’t think anything was completely settled. Something as simple as music on a phone and a loud enough speaker is sufficient for the final 30-45 minutes. We’ll work on that soon!
That’s all for this update. I look forward to seeing you Friday evening at 11:20-ish! ... unless you get a message on Remind or Whats App informing you of a delay. Of the 10 previous times I’ve done this, we’ve only had Day 1 delays three times. The worst two were 2001 (6 hour delay due to a missed connection caused by a late departure from Paris) and 2011 (they ended up arriving the next afternoon due to a canceled flight from Newark). 70% success rate!
Merci!
Monsieur
