CHOLET EXCHANGE UPDATE – January 3, 2023
85 JOURS!
BONNE ANNÉE!
Next tutorial meeting - January 10 - If you were at the last meeting (December 21), I gave you a quick look at an agenda filled with items I want to discuss with you before we leave. Please make every effort to attend these. If there is a certain day of the week that is bad for you, please let me know. My plan is to continue with Tuesday meetings for the rest of the semester. I will soon let you know if Tuesdays will continue to be good once the new semester starts.
From the last tutorial meeting - I want to remind those of you who do not yet have a host that your introductory letter is due to me this Friday. Our friends in Cholet will try to make the best possible match for you. Talk about yourself, your interests, your families, your pets, etc. Just ask yourself, “what would I want to know about somebody who will be living in my home for a while?” If you have any allergies, especially to pets, let that be known. If you feel like you are a good match for someone you met in October, think about contacting that person directly. If you can find a host that way, you won’t need to write a letter.
Scholarship opportunity! - There is a very generous member of our community who greatly supports the idea of students traveling abroad. He has offered to provide a scholarship to cover the cost of one of your trips. The recipient will have the EF portion of his/her trip totally covered. I will give more details at the next meeting.
Travel Paris to Cholet, Cholet to Paris - I have begun looking into how we will travel from the Paris airport to Cholet on March 30 and from Cholet to Paris on April 6. In the past we have traveled by bus and by train. This year I am also considering flying from Paris to Nantes (a city about 45 miles from Cholet) and back. If this option is less expensive than the 5-hour bus ride, I will strongly consider it. According to one estimate that Madame Bellanger was kind enough to find, one way from Paris to Cholet would cost about $2300. That would be divided among all of you. I will be able to make more progress on this once we know our flight arrangements. This, by the way, is not something organized by EF.
That’s it for today! Madame Bellanger is working on our agenda and has shared some of that information with me. I’ll tell you more about that soon.
Monsieur
