CHOLET EXCHANGE UPDATE – June 12, 2025

7 JOURS!

Bonjour! With one week to go, here are a few reminders and items I would have mentioned at student meetings if we had had more.

Thursday, June 19 The bus and luggage van leave the FHS north lot at 10:45am for the Cleveland Airport, hoping to arrive by 12:45 since we need to check in three hours before departure. Please arrive at FHS by 10:30. It will not be possible to load all travelers and luggage onto the bus. We will have a van into which we will put as much luggage as possible. The rest will be in the back of the bus. We will need time to load luggage, take pictures, cry a little, check for passports (yes, I will do a passport check BEFORE we leave Fairview. If we discover a missing passport when we’re checking in at the Cleveland Airport, we will have major problems), cry some more, hug, say goodbye and finally get on the bus.

Saturday, July 5

We are scheduled to land in Cleveland at 7:28 pm. I will use the Remind App to update families on our status. You may also check on the Air Canada website flight tracker (Paris to Toronto flight 873; Toronto to Cleveland flight 8735). Once we are set to leave Cleveland, I will send a notification on Remind. I will send another once we cross the Ohio/PA border on I-90. From there we are 15-20 minutes from FHS - north lot.

Parents, it’s not too late to join the “Remind” app. Look for @b9h6hgd Cholet Exchange June 2025 (Parents). I’ll be doing a practice run very soon.

Other items

The 2025 Fairview-Cholet Exchange Facebook page is open to all travelers and their relatives and friends. On that note, I received a request from "An Ne" to join our Facebook page. Can anyone vouch for this person? I am also checking with the Cholet teachers since An Ne may be connected to one of our hosts. If I don’t find a connection, I will block her.

During the Cholet exchange excursions (Futuroscope, Puy du Fou, Nantes, Angers) your hosts will offer to pack lunches for you. We do the same in October (Niagara Falls, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Erie).

Paris metro video During the student meetings I didn’t get a chance to discuss the Paris metro. There’s a “how-to” video I made a long time ago (students may have seen it in class). That’s on a DVD, so I can’t link it here. But this video isn’t bad - and it’s more recent.

Packing notes

Make sure you bring comfortable shoes! You will walk a lot!

No bare-shoulders in the churches. A few are on our tour schedule, others are possible. If you tend to go sleeveless, wear spaghetti straps, etc., have something ready (shirt, sweatshirt, etc.). Also a good idea if the weather (or AC on the bus) is cooler than planned.

Review the 3-1-1 rule for liquids in carry-on luggage here and here. If you have a liquid container that is larger than 3.4 ounces (100 ml), (shampoo, contact lens fluid, etc.) it needs to be in your checked luggage. I’ll have a small bottle of contact solution on the flights and a larger one in my suitcase.

Don’t bother wrapping your gifts in advance. Security might just unwrap them during screenings.

Guys, that’s all for you. Feel free to stop reading. l may send one more update before we leave. As with the Remind app for parents, I will do a practice run with WhatsApp (Fairview France juin 2025) once everyone joins - almost there!

Ladies, bring whatever you need for your menstrual cycle, even if you just recently had your period. I hear that air travel may indirectly affect the cycle (though can’t say from personal experience). So it’s good to be ready just in case. From an A.I. overview: Air travel can indirectly affect your period, not because of the flight itself, but because of factors like stress, sleep disruption, and changes in routine that can influence hormone levels and potentially disrupt your menstrual cycle. This can manifest as a delayed period, a shorter or longer cycle, or changes in flow. For more info, click here.
