CHOLET EXCHANGE UPDATE – July 7, 2025

POST-TRIP UPDATE

Bonjour!

Travelers: I hope you are doing well readjusting to eastern daylight time and sharing plenty of stories of your trip. Parents: I hope you’re enjoying those stories!

Surveys I have created two surveys, one survey for the travelers and one for parents. Please answer honestly. The purpose is to get your thoughts on everything and decide what to change and what not to change as I get ready for the next trip.

Photos You still have access to the shared Google photo folder. Feel free to open it up and reminisce whenever you want. But I would also love it if you contributed pictures too. Merci d’avance. You may also add posts to the 2025 Fairview-Cholet Exchange Facebook page. I will use that same page in the fall.

Bus announcements Students, you’ll recall that I made a few announcements on the bus before we returned to Fairview. Then, while getting off the bus, a few students informed me that they were unable to hear me at all. (Why they couldn’t relay that message sooner is a different matter.) Here’s a recap on those. (I did mention that I would include them in this update.)

We have five Cholet students without a host for October. Now that you know these kids (even if only a little), think of which Fairview students would be a good match for them. Talk to them and let me know.

I thanked all of you for extending your school year by a few weeks. Now you are officially juniors, seniors and graduates - graduates who, I hope, will stay in touch!

I thanked all of the adults for being fantastic additions to our tour!

I mentioned my own high school trip from 43 years ago and how I still have so many clear, fond, special memories from that trip. My wish is that will be the case for you, too: 10, 20, 30 or more years down the road, you will look back at this trip as something special, maybe the trip of a lifetime. Maybe some of you will stay in touch and even get together again with your Cholet friends. If you do, let me know.

During our preparations for the trip, I mentioned that the future of this program lies in your hands. If problems ever escalate to the point where I can’t control them, you will be known as “the group that ended the Fairview-Cholet Exchange”. On the bus I announced “It looks like the exchange WILL continue!” That is thanks to YOU! You were great! The problems we had were minor and few.

Parents, thank you for trusting me with your students. For some of you, this may be the first time your kids have left you for a two-week stretch - and that can be difficult for you. I hope you have no regrets about this and that all went as well as you were hoping, if not better. We had two "repeat parents" on this trip. If any younger siblings of students on this year's trip sign up in the future, I'll take that as a good sign!

That’s it! C’est tout! Thanks to all of you for being a part of this. Enjoy the rest of your summer. If you’re hosting in October, you’ll be hearing from me with updates and info at some point in the future

Au revoir!

Monsieur
