Psalm 57
READ PSALM 57. This psalm is about David when he was hiding from King Saul in a cave. The psalm consists of two parts.

Part 1: In verses 1–6, David gives expression to the anxiety which he felt because his enemies had set a trap for him. He asks God to help him against Saul and his other enemies.

Part 2: In verses 7-11, David cries out for God to help him by having mercy on him.  David expects God to deliver him so he praises God.

Psalm 58
READ PSALM 58.  This is one of David's imprecatory psalms. That means the psalmist asks God to punish, harm, or even destroy his enemies who are wicked rulers.

Notice the things on the psalmist list that his enemies had done to him.
Also, notice the two things David asks God to do the wicked rulers.

Psalm 58 is a companion to Psalm 57, which also describes David's hiding from King Saul.

David's righteousness was displayed when he refrained from killing Saul in the cave when he had a chance to do so.

David exhorts at length against either wicked people or wicked judges, the latter possibly referring to those who sided with Saul. David uses highly descriptive language comparing the wicked to snakes, serpents, cobras, and lions, and prays to God to "smash their teeth in their mouth, shatter the molars of young lions."

Notice what the psalmist says the godly will do.

Psalm 59
READ PSALM 59. This psalm is described as "a prayer composed when Saul sent messengers to wait at the house in order to kill David."

David seeks God's protection from his enemies and is confident that God will defeat them and punish them. He asks that his enemies live on in defeat as an object lesson to His people.

Notice the reasons David gives for needing protection and why he wants his enemies to be punished. Also, notice what God does to David's enemies. Finally, notice what David's testimony is in verse 16.

Psalm 60
READ PSALM 60. David asks God why he has rejected His people. He calls upon God to help him overcome the nations they are fighting.

What is the people's pain that David expresses to God?
What is David's plea?
What is David's promise?
What is David's perplexity>

Psalm 61
READ PSALM 61. See that David prays for protection and long life and praises God for hearing his prayer.

What exactly does David ask God for?
What is God's promise to God?
