Ponder and Pondering: Definition
Ponder is a verb that means to think deeply about something. It involves reflecting on a particular idea to gain a deeper understanding of it. When we ponder something, we take our time to consider all aspects of the issue, weighing the pros and cons. Mary Pondering Proves Her Faith
More than likely, Mary, the mother of Jesus pondered things often in her heart. However, the Bible records only three times. Mary is the only person that the Bible records pondered things in her heart.

All three recordings of Mary pondering something in her heart were about Jesus, her son.

Luke 1:29 - when angel Gabriel told her she would have a son
Luke 2:19 - at Jesus' birth
Luke 2:51 - when Jesus was 12 years old
First Recording of Mary Pondering
The first and one of the most well-known stories about Mary is when she pondered the events when the angel Gabriel appeared to her. Even before he told her she would bear a son, Mary was already pondering why he showed up to greet her.

Mary's story is one of faith, devotion, and love. Mary's pondering reflects her deep faith and trust in God.

But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. (Luke 1:29)

Second Recording of Mary Pondering
According to the Gospel of Luke 2:19, Mary pondered things in her heart for the second recorded time. The first time was before Jesus was born. The second time was soon after Jesus was born.

It is written that after the shepherds visited the newborn Jesus in Bethlehem, Mary "treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart" (Luke 2:19).

Third Recording of Mary Pondering
The third and final record of Mary pondering something in her heart also involved Jesus.

Jesus had just turned twelve years old, and he went with his parents to Jerusalem to attend the Passover for the first time. It was a custom for the children to walk with their mothers and the boys over twelve would walk with the men.

When the group left Jerusalem after a week, Mary thought Jesus was with Joseph and Joseph thought Jesus was with Mary. After a day's journey from Jerusalem, they discovered that Jesus was not with either one of them.

When Mary and Joseph walked back to Jerusalem, they found Jesus in the temple, sitting among the religious leaders asking them questions.

When the trio left the temple to go home, Mary's pondered what she had just witnessed in her heart.

He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and His mother kept all these things in her heart. (Luke 2:51)
