Hi - Welcome to Steve Ahn's Quia web page for Abingdon High.
For daily assignments and activities please visit my MOODLE page at the link below and log in as guest (if you are a parent).
. Thanks for stopping by.
Course Content:
Earth Science is a combination of many sciences, including geology, meteorology, oceanography, and astronomy. This class will teach and use the process of science to study the Earth's composition, structure, processes, and history; its atmosphere, fresh water, and oceans; its local and global environment; its relationship to the rest of the universe; as well as the historical contributions in the development of scientific thought about Earth and space. Major topics of study include plate tectonics, the rock cycle, earth history, the oceans, the atmosphere, weather/climate, and space.
Required Materials:
Something to write with (you’d be surprised how many forget this)
Something to write on
Clothes to be outside (shoes, coat, etc – you can leave a pair in my room)
Science book (occasionally – you will be told when to bring it)
Grading Policy:
This class will be run as a business and you will act as an employee. You will be paid for the work you do. For instance, a quiz may be worth $70. If you make $61 of the $70 you can do a simple percentage to find out your actual grade (You will become very good at calculating percentages). This is not a 100 point scale. Tests will be worth more $ than homework. For example a test might be worth $73 and a classwork assignment could be worth $11.
Classroom rules and EXPECTATIONS:
There is only one Rule: RESPECT.
Respect yourself, Respect others, Respect property, Respect the learning process. This applies to students and Mr. Ahn equally. Consequences will be determined by a classroom contract created (by the class and Mr. Ahn) at the start of the school year.
I expect students to Learn. I expect students to participate in class. I expect students to act with respect. I expect students to take responsibility for their actions. I expect students to really enjoy this class. I expect to be very impressed with each student and with each class.
Tardy Policy and Mobile Device (cell phone) Policy:
If you are not in the room when the bell rings…you are late – The 3rd and subsequent tardies in a semester will be turned into the attendance office. If you use a mobile device in class, you will turn it into the office.
