Fifth Grade Art
In 5th Grade Art at HPES our students are encouraged to make personal choices with their art. They draw from there previous art instruction to construct and produce a variety of artwork. Our students also continue to improve and expand upon their knowledge of the elements of art and the principles of design as they relate to artistic expression and communication. The following concepts are some of the things we learn about in fifth grade art.





The Elements of Art
-Line, Shape, Form, Color, Value, Texture, and Space.

The Principles of Design
-Rhythm, Balance, Proportion, Variety, Unity, and Harmony.

Color
-The Color Wheel
-Primary, secondary, and intermediate colors.
-Warm and cool colors.
-Tints and shades
-Color Schemes (monochromatic, analogous, and complementary)

Drawing Techniques
-Shading and gradation
-Spatial relationships
-Figure Drawing
-One-point Perspective

Fiber Art

Critical Thinking, Aesthetics, and Judgment
-Why do we create art?
-Why does art look the way it does?
-Comparing and contrasting different artists, styles, periods, and pieces.
-Writing about and responding to art.

Technology In Art
-Use the Paint program to create a linear perspective drawing.
-Study the career of a graphic designer

-The art of Wassilly Kandinsky
