First Grade Art
In First Grade Art at HPES we focus on: developing an art vocabulary, self-expression, and depicting specific events and stories. The following concepts are some of the things we learn about in first grade art.
Colors
-The Primary colors: red, yellow, and blue.
-The Secondary colors: orange, green and violet (purple).
-Mixing colors: red + yellow = orange, yellow + blue = green, blue + red = violet
Texture
-Tactile Texture: the way something feels.
-Visual Texture: the way something looks like it feels.
Lines, Line Characteristics, and Line Variations
-Solid or dotted.
-Wavy, spiral, straight, slanted (diagonal), zigzag.
-Thick or thin.
Shapes
-Geometric: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, oval, and diamond.
-Organic: shapes that don’t have names. (Leaves, clouds, and puddles of water)
Patterns
-Simple: red, blue, red, blue, red, blue, red, blue…
-Alternating: red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue…
Art History
Claude Monet
-He was from France.
-He had 13 Kids.
-He lived in a pink house.
-He painted nature by scribbling.
Claus Oldenburg
-He was a sculptor.
-He made ordinary stuff into huge, building size pieces or art.
-He turned the ordinary into extraordinary.
