Kindergarten Art

In Kindergarten Art at HPES the student is introduced to many different types of art, art processes, and techniques. Also in Kindergarten Art, the student is encouraged to express themselves through art. The following concepts are some of the things we learn about.

Colors
-The Primary colors: red, yellow, and blue.
-The Secondary colors: orange, green and violet (purple).
-Mixing colors: red + yellow = orange, yellow + Blue = green, blue + red = violet

Texture (the way something feels)
-Smooth, soft, scratchy, rough, slick, bumpy, and fuzzy.
-Examples: Animal fur, the ceiling, the floor, the bottom of our shoes, our hair, and brick.

Lines and Line Characteristics
-Solid or dotted.
-Wavy, spiral, straight, slanted (diagonal), zig zag.
-Thick or thin.

Shapes
-Circle, square, rectangle, triangle, oval, and diamond.

Patterns
-Simple: red, blue, red, blue, red, blue, red, blue…
-Alternating: red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue…

Spatial Relationships (small things and big things in the same picture)
-Try working on different sizes of the same thing in the same picture. Like small children standing next to adults, or short people standing next to tall buildings.

Abstract Art
-Art that doesn’t have to look like anything.
-Art that is just an accident, like splattering paint and making it into something.
-Making shapes out of clouds.

-He had 8 children.
-He lived in a pink house.
