Creating Depth, Fall Still-life (Cast Shadow Study)
In Second Grade Art at HPES students focus on: drawing inspiration for art making from their own experiences, their school, their communities, the environment, and the art of other cultures. The following concepts are some of the things we learn about in second grade art.
Colors
-The Primary colors: red, yellow, and blue.
-The Secondary colors: orange, green and violet (purple).
-Mixing colors: red + yellow = orange, yellow + Blue = green, blue + red = violet
Shapes & Symbols
-Circle, square, rectangle, triangle, oval, crosses, and diamond.
Forms
-Sphere, cube, cone, pyramid, and cylinder.
Patterns
-Simple: red, blue, red, blue, red, blue, red, blue…
-Alternating: red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue…
-Complex: red, blue yellow, blue, red, blue, yellow, blue, red, blue, yellow…
Drawing Techniques
-Shading: turning our shapes into forms. (Circles into spheres, squares into cubes…)
Abstract Art
-Art that doesn’t have to look like anything, it can be a happy accident.
Emotions in Art
-Dark colors usually mean sad or scary feelings.
-Light or bright colors usually mean happy feelings.

-Landscape, portrait, or still life.
