Use the links below to investigate. Links are to articles that appeared in newspapers and magazines. These links will work in school just by clicking on them.
Important note: If an article is in PDF format, click on the PDF link to view the article.
To use the links off campus, you will need to log in to EBSCO, Gale Network, ProQuest Historical Newspapers or the Syracuse Newspapers using the "Access Online Resources From Home" link at the top of the Quia page.
MLA Citation
To find the MLA citation on each database, follow these directions:
EBSCO
Click on the Cite link on the right hand side of the page to bring up a citation pop up window. Scroll down to and then highlight and copy the MLA citation. Paste it into a Word Document.
Gale Network
Scroll down to the bottom of the article. Look for the words Source Citation.
Copy the Source Citation.
If you don't see a Source Citation, click on the "Citation Tools" link in the Tools panel at the right side of the screen at the top of the article. Select MLA 7th edition, and then click on Save. Click on Open. Copy the MLA citation.
Proquest Historical Newspapers
Click on the "Cite this" link in the yellow bar at the top of the article. Copy the MLA citation.
Syracuse Newspapers
Click on the "Bibliography export" link on the right hand side of the page. Click on the "MLA Citations" link. Copy the MLA citation that opens in the pop up window.
Internet Site
Use this template. Note: You will need to add hanging indent.
Author or Editor’s Last Name, Author or Editor’s First Name (if given).”Title of Page or Article.” Title of Site. Name of Institution or Organization Associated With Site, Date of electronic publication or of the latest update (day month year). Web. Date of access (day month year).
Searching Tips
Choose keywords for your topic.
Use truncation if it will be helpful.
Use synonyms to get all the results.
Use Boolean operators to combine keywords to expand or limit your search.
Truncation Use one star to replace any number of characters following the root form of a word.
Example: teen*
Synonyms Use a variety of vocabulary.
Example: teenagers adolescents youth
