Objectives for Spanish 2:

Enero y febrero del 2009

Semana del 26 de enero al 30 de enero:

Objetivos:

Capítulos (chapters) 3A y 3B:

-Students will make comparisons between markets in the U.S. and in Spanish speaking countries, focusing on the skillful art of bargaining.  Students will use questions, phrases and expressions commonly used when shopping at stores or open-air markets, such as "¿En qué puedo servirle?" (How may I help you?) or "¿Cuánto cuesta?" (How much does it cost?).

-Students will learn vocabulary related to means of transportation, traffic, and downtown buildings, and students will also learn how to give and follow directions, using informal commands and interpreting maps.

-Students will review expressions with "tener", such as "tener cuidado" (to be careful), "tener prisa"(to be in a hurry"), "tener razón" (to be right).

-In addition, students will learn vocabulary about taking a trip, and will review past tense of regular and irregular verbs, to discuss activities during a vacation or trip.

*** Practice the vocabulary by playing the games under the section, "My quizzes, activities, and surveys" below.


Upcoming Projects:

-Students will create a PowerPoint presentation about their last vacation or holiday.  Using the past tense of regular and irregular verbs, students will talk about what they did during their vacation or holiday.

***The objective is for students to use the PowerPoint as a tool to present their information orally to the class.  This is a written and speaking activity, not a reading activity. ****

-First phase of the project will consist of answering questions about their vacation, using the preterit or past tense.  Rough drafts will be collected, revised, and given back to students with suggestions on how to improve their writing.

-Second phase will consist of creating the PowerPoint with illustrations.

-Third phase will be to present the PowerPoint to class.

-Fourth phase:  Students not presenting will write notes about their classmates' vacations.

-The oral presentation of this project will be due at the end of the third 9-weeks (exact date to be announced).

-Project Grade:  30 %


Assignments:

*** Homework (tarea) is assigned daily, so students can practice what they have learned in class, on their own.

-El lunes, 26 de enero:

Testing resumes.  Third and fifth periods will take the chapter test 3A. 
After testing, students will learn the culture and history of Argentina, by viewing a documentary and completing questions about the material viewed and heard.

-El martes, 27 de enero:

Read "Los mercados al aire libre", p.148, textbook, and answered the question, What is a "Tianguis"? (open air markets).  Classified questions, responses, and expressions that a vendor or seller (el vendedor) may say, versus what a buyer (el comprador) may say.

-El miércoles, 28 de enero:

Reviewed demonstrative adjectives , p.114, textbook, and completed worksheet.

Made a list of real and fictional means of transportation, and reviewed vocabulary by using online flashcards.

Reviewed prepositions of location, p. 154, textbook.

-El jueves, 29 de enero:

Reviewed present tense of irregular "yo" forms in the present tense, ending in-go: poner, salir, tener, hacer, traer, venir, p.155 textbook.

Para empezar: Completed Actividad 3, p.155 textbook.

Introduced vocabulary related to places in a city or town, driving, and transportation, pp.158-159, and p. 180, textbook.

-El viernes, 30 de enero:

Announced that there will be a vocabulary quiz on chapter 3B, pp.158-159, and p.180, textbook.

Para empezar:  Actividad 4, p. 155, textbook.  Use "yo" form of irregular verbs in the present tese.

Discussed vocabulary related to places in a city or town, driving, and transportation, pp.158-159, and p. 180, textbook.

Listening Activity: Write descriptions heard.  Find the word or expression from the vocabulary that matches the description.

Homework:  Complete worksheet 3B-2 & 3B-3 (pp.63-64), to practice vocabulary.
