Hello to my Chalker Champs!
You and your parents can use this web site to keep up with what we are doing in class and to communicate with me.
Things we are currently learning:
MATH
Multiplication Concepts:
We have been working with arrays to illustrate and learn our multiplication facts.
Beginning this week, we will be learning to use the area model to solve double digit x single digit multiplication problems. We will use our tens blocks as manipulatives for this activity.
We will also continue working on learning our Multiplication Facts. Students can click on the link below for Multiplication.com and do the games for practice.
READING
Students are reading daily and we are working on increasing reading levels. Each student should be reading at home daily. Any student reading below grade level should be reading aloud to an adult daily.
Our current focus is Comprehension. We are also working on identifying characters, plot, setting, problem, and solution.
ENGLISH AND LANGUAGE ARTS
Spelling--Each student has an individualized list of words each week. Tests are on Friday.
Grammar--Adjectives
Writing--Each student will use a graphic organizer to help him/her organize needed information and thoughts to write a narrative on a personal experience.
HOMEWORK
Homework folders are sent home on Monday of each week and are due back on Friday each week. Spelling practice is a part of the homework packet. Also, students should be reading EVERY NIGHT!
PAYROLL
We are using a "Payroll System" and students are receiving "paychecks" for each week's work and good behavior. Students have checkbooks and are learning how to fill out deposit slips, personal checks, and check registers. They may use their earned money to purchase "tent time," snacks, drawing time, time to sit in the teacher's rolly chair, and all sorts of other cool stuff that the students came up with.

EVERY STUDENT SHOULD BE READING EVERY NIGHT!! READING ALOUD TO AN ADULT IS VERY IMPORTANT!
