A rational number can be written as a repeating decimal (1/3 = 0.33333. . .; 8/9 - 0.88888 . . ). ) An irrational number cannot be written as a fraction. Irrational numbers can be expressed as decimal numbers which are non-terminating and non-repeating (4.1356472. . . ). Pi is an irrational number (3.14159265. . .). Some square roots are rational (sq.root of 25 = 5); some square roots are irrational (sq.root of 3 = 1.732050807. . .)).
